7 Pakistani varsities among 250 top Asian universities; QS Ranking 2013

Islamabad, In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking, as many as Seven (07) Pakistani higher learning institutes have been ranked among the top 250 Asian universities.  In addition, three (03) institutes are among the top 200 world universities in the field of agriculture and forestry.

This was identified by QS in a ranking list. QS is a well-known agency which ranks the universities by keeping in view their quality of education.

Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad has been graded as 119th, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad was on120th number, the Aga Khan University (AKU) Karachi on 152nd and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) 191st.

The University of Engineering and Technology Lahore (UET), University of Karachi (KU) and University of the Punjab, Lahore (PU) were graded between 201 and 250.

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad was on 142nd number, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi 152nd and the Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad has been graded as 172th. These universities have been ranked in the field of agriculture and forestry worldwide and got the status among the top 200 universities across the world in the field of agriculture and forestry.

Dr Javaid R. Laghari, the HEC chairman said last year around six Pakistani universities were ranked among the top 300 Asian universities. Now QAU has been included in the list of top 250 universities which indicates that QAU has upgraded its quality of education and research programs.
 
 He further said that in next few years confidently at least 10 Pakistani universities will be ranked among the top world universities. The HEC media coordinator said that as the HEC was came into being in 2002 the research production has been enhanced eightfold (from 815 in 2002 to over 6,300 in 2012) having lots of publications in areas of relevance to economic development. Around 90 percent of the research publications in Pakistan are being produced by the higher educational institutions.
