Islamabad, A farewell ceremony was conducted for 33 new Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD) scholarships or “German Academic Exchange Service” scholars by German Ambassador Dr Cyrill Nunn. These scholars would get engaged in PhD’s and master’s courses at several German universities in the forthcoming months.

Executive Director Dr Ahmed Mukhtar and DAAD Country Director Ursula Saarbeck attended the ceremony at the German embassy. They said that the new scheme of HEC’s foreign scholarship for the year 2004 is getting popularity among Pakistani students pursuing educational facilities in foreign countries. 

A total of 33 scholars will get these scholarships and12 are PhD candidates who will get finance from a DAAD Research Grant.
Around 12 scholars will pursue their education in  masters in public policy and good governance while 8 candidates will be engaged in masters in development-related fields.

All 33 scholars will also study a compulsory German language course.

Dr Nunn said that this will be helpful to strengthen the relationships and links between Germany and Pakistan in the field of higher education.

The German Federal Foreign Office has offered extra support to upsurge the number of scholarships for Pakistani students. Among the twelve students, seven are from Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Around 12 postgraduate students of Pakistan have got MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan) Research Scholarships for the current year 2013. The purpose of awarding these scholarships was to give opening to these students for higher education in their particular areas at universities in Japan.
 
In this regard a ceremony was conducted for these selected students by the Embassy of Japan on Thursday. The ex-student of MEXT Alumni Association of Pakistan (MAAP) told the young awardees about their understanding and experiences.

Toshikazu Isomura, Counsellor, Head of Public Affairs Section, acknowledged the students and said that Pakistan would like to utilize the services and knowledge which they would gain in Japan for the prospect growth of Pakistan.
