Lahore: The Syndicate of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Tuesday decided to present honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy to the Director General of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr Jose Graziano Da Silva.

In a meeting headed by the Vice Chancellor of UVAS organized on Tuesday Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, the participants unanimously approved award of degree to Dr Silva and sought sending of the case to the chancellor or the governor to validate the decision before a particular convocation that is scheduled to be held on October 8th, 2016.

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research had proposed the name of the FAO DG for the award of the honorary PhD degree to UVAS.

The proposal was placed in front of the Honorary Degree Nomination Committee of the UVAS, which acknowledged the exceptional contribution of Dr Jose Graziano Da Silva to food security, rural development and agriculture as well as unanimously decided to suggest him for the award of degree during the academic year 2016.

Formerly, the Vice Chancellor of UVAS briefed the Syndicate members on academic, research, training, extension as well as development programmes of the UVAS.
