UVAS approves Rs 3.02billion budget for educational projects

Lahore:  University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) group yesterday approved Rs 3.02 billion budget for the economical year 2016-17.

Presiding the 44th syndicate meeting, admirable Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said attention would be paid on applied research and development projects for more enhancing the quality of education and services at the university.

He further told the meeting that Rs 1624.7 million have been allocated for the development projects.

Out of the total development allocation, Rs 400 million will be spent on continuing project of “Improvement of Research Facilities at Ravi Campus Pattoki”, Rs 88.650 million on the continuing development project of new Para-Veterinary School at Narowal and Rs 847.7 million on UVAS at Bahawalpur.

He said that Rs 377 million will be spent on two new development projects.

Of the two latest projects, Rs 200 million have been allocated for “New Academic Block, Students Hostels and Apartments for Faculty” at City Campus whereas Rs 177 million for “Launch of Training Centre for Biologics at Ravi Campus Pattoki.”

Further, Vice Chancellor said that the students’ scholarship amount has also been increased to Rs 37.96 million for the 2016-17 from Rs 32.47 million provided in 2015-16.

Vice chancellor moreover said that the faculty members are paying a hefty amount to the university income through their competitive research grants.

Presently 81 research projects of 879.23 million are being executed by the faculty members they have won from national and international funding agencies, he added.

The committee also approved some new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.

The sanction of house demand facility for employees of grade 1 to 4 and improving medical facilities for all the lower grade employees was also granted in the meeting.
