Karachi: Hunan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, People's Republic of China signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) along with the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi and Zainab Panjwani Memorial Hospital (ZPMH), Karachi.


The main objective of signed MOU is the establishment of 'Pak-China Ethnomedicine Research Center' in ICCBS, to carry out cooperation in safety and operative estimation, standards research as well as herbs farming.


Furthermore, this centre will provide platform for Chinese medicine research in science and marketing.

As per the signed MOU, the 3 parties are planning to establish a Chinese medicine policlinic in Zainab Panjwani Memorial Hospital, a non-profit body of Dr Punjwani Memorial Trust, to elaborate Chinese medicine clinical diagnostics and treatment. Hunan Anbang Pharmaceutical Co Ltd also makes a strategy to establish a pharmaceutical company at the ICCBS, Pakistan.

A senior representative of the ICCBS said that the MoU was signed in a specially organized ceremony at Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi. The well-known professor of Furong Prof Dr Wei Wang, ICCBS Director Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary and Co-Director of Zainab Panjwani Memorial Hospital Dr Khalid Shafi signed the MoU on behalf of their institutes.

Dr Jianhua Huang, Dr SB Ojha of ZPMH as well as other Chinese and Pakistani representatives were also present on the event.

Prof. Dr Wei Wang admired the research and academic facilities at the ICCBS and she said that this agreement was made to improve the training, cultivation, as well as the communications of health professionals.


This MoU will promote the cooperation among Hunan University of Chinese Medicine and ICCBS for faculty exchange as well as scholarship programmes.


Prof Iqbal Choudhary said that this agreement is targeted to improve the Chinese medicine clinical cooperation among the two countries, and develop related Chinese medicine projects in Karachi.

According to the signed agreement, the zones of association between both the institutions involve the exchange of appointed the adjunct faculty, research scholars; as well as joint execution of publications, research project, supervision students, he said.

He said this agreement will be valid for a period of five years from the date of execution and it might be extended by mutual agreement in writing by both parties.
