Karachi: Out of 2,400 laptops allotted for the second phase of the Prime Minister (PM) Laptop Scheme, total 107 were distributed among the students of MPhil and PhD students of University of Karachi (UOK) at a ceremony organized on Thursday.
The second stage of the laptop distribution scheme started in November 2015 and applications were submitted online to the official website of Higher Education Commission. KU confirmed the data after HEC marked an applicant as eligible on the web portal.
UOK distributed 107 laptops among students of M.Phil and PhD under Prime Minister Laptop Scheme.
While addressing at the ceremony organized on Thursday, Vice Chancellor of Karachi University Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser announced that total 1,153 students of MPhil and PhD Programs submitted their online applications from which 750 students were affirmed eligible by Higher Education commission.
Large number of students, researchers and scholars of the universities crosswise the country has benefitted under this laptop distribution scheme.
The second stage of the scheme will cater to almost 2,400 aspirants from Master’s, Bachelor’s as well as doctorate programmes. It was also announced at the ceremony that the remaining laptops for the second stage will be distributed by the admissions committee as well as the student adviser’s office.
Munazah Raheem, an MPhil student at KU, was one of the students who received a laptop on Thursday.
“I applied in the first stage of the scheme however, the things did not work and the main person advised me to apply in the second stage,” she added.
The main person of prime minister’s laptop scheme, Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi, said that the scheme promotes consciousness and use of technology at a time when there is a tough competitive environment in the entire world. Farther from the promotion of academics, the scheme also supports social and economic betterment of the users, he said.
