Despite Theresa May restraining order of limiting the intake of immigrant international students in Great Britain just like her Brexit dream have failed miserably, her leaving the office and reversal of the order that was in place that was termed by her as being too generous with the international students in 2012.

Before the change of policy Theresa has stepped up to limit the entry of immigrant population by limiting the stay duration of international students from other nations including Pakistan.

Now that the nation has compelled the reversion of the law United Kingdom has finally decided to have a taken on this subject to extend working rights to foreign students which comes as a great news for the Pakistani students.

The various provisions in relevance to the law are as follows-

  1. Two years instead of 4 months – The stay of a Pakistani students along with other international students was previously limited to 4 months now the decision has be reverted and the duration of stay has again be extended to about 2 years.

Two years are long enough for a Pakistani student after completion of their degree to look for a job and gain international working experience.

  1. Degree from a UK university -Pakistani student should have completed degree in United Kingdom in order to avail the extended stay duration. The Pakistani student should have been enrolled in a full time degree course in a United Kingdom university.
  2. Number of students – There is no limit to the number of students in availing this opportunity. Only new applicants from Pakistan will be receiving this 2 years tenure.

When the stay duration was reduced to 4 months a sharp decline in the number of international students in UK universities was observed now the changes will increase the intake manifold.

Reasons for change in policy are as follows-

  1. Pressure from different sectors- The biggest reason for relief in the policy is the pressure from the educational and business sectors.

Prior to the change the number of applicants to United Kingdom Universities had reduced to nearly half, this reduction in the number of applicants has greatly affected business in comparison to United States of America.

  1. Retention of resource- Another important factor was the students who were trained and educated in UK were not provided with enough time to return to the country they studied in, Pakistani students used to study in UK and provide their services elsewhere.

This policy was changed to retain the resource and the brains that have been trained in United Kingdom.

  1. Other nations – when great Britain closed their doors other  countries of the world began softening their student policies this led to a shift of traffic to them for example Ireland , France etc.

Measures by other countries are -Post-graduation work permit by Canada for international students, Australia also eased out the policies of immigration for international students giving a tough competition to United Kingdom.

  1. Economic benefits- The international students including the students from Pakistan give great benefit to United Kingdom economically, and because of reduction of duration this economic benefit was also halted.

Foreign students contribute about 25 billion pounds to United Kingdom annually.

Other measures- The United Kingdom is doing head over heels effort in correcting the mistake of Theresa May which affected the money the international students used to generate for the Britain’s economy.

In order to facilitate early application of the Pakistani students into United Kingdom universities, class campaigns are being run to guide Pakistani students during their application procedures and visa formalities by the United Kingdom’s government.
