Islamabad: A private institute named Muslim Law College, located on the edge of Federal capital has been offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in humanities, science, management, computer sciences as well as in law without being affiliated with any university and also without meeting other legal requirements.

The suspicious authorization of this private educational institute has put the future of large number of registered and passed out students in its different programmes at risk.

However, its nursery to secondary as well as higher secondary level programmes are said to be recognized with the concerned boards and departments whereas its graduate and post-graduate programmes of LLB and LLM are neither affiliated with Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) nor they have approval of HEC Pakistan.

But the college claiming to have the affiliation of Islamia University Bahawalpur has been granting degrees illegally to the students.

The IUB registrar, Dr Abdul Sattar Khan, said the university has not any dealings with this college and it is also not affiliated with varsity.

Media Director of HEC, Aayesha Ikram also claimed that the respective college is not authorized to award degrees as it is not a degree awarding institute. She added “Award of degree is only the responsibility of the affiliate institute and in such cases the degree awarding university will be responsible for penalties”.

Began in 2011, the law programme has passed out large number of aspirants with fake degrees.

Umair Inayat, a student of LLB 3rd year, has paid large amount for being an aspirant of an unrecognized institute. He had applied for UK visa to chase bar-at-law there however, it was refused to him for almost 10 years for making false representations in submitted application.

Umair said, “I had written in my application that I am studying LLB course at Muslim Law College affiliated with Islamia University Bahawalpur, as stated by the college, but the British High Commission exposed that the college was not recognized by any university”.

He added “The College has not just wasted my precious time, money and hard work however; it has also put a black mark on my identifications and now I will have to wait for 10 years if I want to chase higher education in England.”

Umair Inayat has litigated the college by demanding Rs 500 million for defaming and for spoiling his future. He has also filed a complaint against the principal of institute in Koral police station

The authorities of HEC said that they can only reject the degree verification of such illegal institutes and write to provincial governments and the concerned varsities to take action against them. The Commission order is not allowed to do more than this.
