UHS displayed MBBS merit lists for 11 medical colleges

Lahore, The University of Health Sciences (UHS) displayed its lists of MBBS candidates to be admitted to in 11 public sector medical colleges in Punjab on open merit and also against the seats reserved for the under-developed districts and the disabled students.

A division bench headed by Justice Chaudhry Shahid Saeed of the Lahore High Court which earlier had barred the UHS from implementing the merit list till final decision, dismissed the petitions filed by some candidates who challenged the entrance test weightage criteria of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for admission to medical/dental colleges in the country on Tuesday.  

Merit had been higher this year as compared to the last year. A total of 6,717 applications were received from Oct 5 to 15 from eligible candidates for admission against 2,842 open merit, 61 under-developed districts’ and 20 disabled candidates’ seats. The merit list was prepared giving a weightage of 10 per cent for matriculation, 40 per cent for intermediate and 50 per cent for entrance test marks, according to the criteria laid down by the PMDC.

The King Edward Medical University remained the top choice of the candidates with merit for the college closing at 88.2372 per cent while the Allama Iqbal Medical College remained at second position with the last merit of 86.4009 per cent. The last merit of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences was 85.0027 per cent, the Fatima Jinnah Medical College (84.5380 per cent), the Nishtar Medical College, Multan (84.1701 per cent), the Rawalpindi Medical College (83.6778 per cent), the Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad, (83.6214 per cent), the Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, (83.0039 per cent), the Sargodha Medical College (82.9150 per cent), the Nawaz Sharif Medical College, Gujrat, (82.6433 per cent), and the Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan, (82.5283 per cent).

The selection list of the Gujranwala Medical College, the Khwaja Muhammad Safdar Medical College, the Sahiwal Medical College, Sialkot and the DG Khan Medical College will be displayed after a few days, the press release said. Concerned colleges will issue the call letters to the selected candidates for interview. The classes will start on Nov 28.

Note: The first selection merit list for BDS would be displayed on Dec 22 and classes in dental colleges will begin on Jan 9 next year.

1. Admission of selected candidate will be cancelled

• If any document / information provided by the candidate is found false / fake or fabricated at any stage
• If it is found at any stage that the candidate was not entitled for admission according to the Admission Policy of the Government of the Punjab
• If the candidate fails to report for admission and deposit fee on due date.
• If the candidate is found medically unfit

2. The candidates admitted against both open merit as well as reserved seats can only avail one seat by their own choice. They will have to surrender the other seat, by submitting an affidavit on Rs.20/- stamp paper, within 07 days of the display of Selection List. In case, the candidate fails to give his/her choice within given time limit, the Admission Board reserves the right to finalize his/her admission according to his/her merit and preference given in his/her Admission Form. No application against the decision of the Admission Board shall be entertained afterwards.
3. Complaint, if any, against the Selection List may be lodged within 15 days of the notification. No complaint will be entertained thereafter.
4. The Chairman Admission Board shall be competent to rectify any error or omission found in the Selection List.
