Lahore: On Monday, the board of members of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) approved a budget of total Rs8.78 billion for the financial year 2017-2018.

The budget approved by the board of members is Rs 8.78 billion. Of the total budget, Rs6.88 billion was reserved for non-development while Rs1.89 billion for the development expenses.

This statement was given during the 60th board meeting organized at the TEVTA secretariat. The chairperson of authority Irfan Qaiser Sheikh presided over the meeting whereas the other members of BOM comprising of Industries Secretary Mujtaba Paracha, Sajida Haider Vandal, Khurram Ismail as well as Nilofar Sikandar were also present there.

The board of members approved the commencement of classes at the first technical university of the state at the Government Emerging Technologies College Township and for this, Rs100 million was allotted.

At the same time, a purpose-built state-of-the-art campus of varsity will also be established at the Government Technical College on Raiwind Road in Lahore.

The board of members approved a reduction in college fee for second as well as for the evening shifts of all TEVTA colleges.

Meanwhile, according to the decision of government of the Punjab the pay scales of employees will be increased.

While addressing the meeting, the chairperson of TEVTA said that extending technical education was the main concern of government of the Punjab.

“This is the reason TEVTA is paying attention on 3 years diploma programmes along with short courses.”

He furthermore said that for this purpose, TEVTA had decided to lessen the fees for evening classes in all DAE programmes.

He told the meeting that TEVTA was also accomplishing the target of offering skills to 0.2 million youngsters across the province.

“No compromise will be made on the quality of technical education,” he added.
