Telenor in partnership with Facebook today has launched Internet.org in Pakistan. With this initiative all the Telenor customers either prepaid or postpaid will able to access 17 websites free of cost. www.ilmkidunya.com will also be available to access freely. This initiative is primarily aimed to facilitate people in the areas where internet facilities are either unavailable or data charges are high.

With the launch of internet.org a global initiative in Pakistan has become seventh country where this facility will be available to masses. The launching event for the internet.org was held today and attended by high ups from Telenor and Facebook including Michael Foley, CEO Telenor, Irfan Wahab deputy CEO Telenor Pakistan and Aslam Hayat Khan VP Telenor Pakistan. Ime Archibong, Global Head for Strategic Partnerships at Facebook.

Students from across the country would now have a golden opportunity to access ilmkidunya.com a Pakistan’s largest educational website free of cost on Telenor connection.

As per Telenor the objective behind launching internet.org is to provide internet access to all those people who can’t afford it. At present the company has no plans for business proposition rather than the only goal is to convert more users to the internet.

This collaboration of Facebook and Telenor is not unique in nature hence other operators are also allowed to participate in the program. Facebook’s target is to spread the project to 100 countries by the end of the year.

Telenor users, from anywhere and with any of the package (including postpaid, 2G & 3G) can access internet.org from their mobile phones to access these websites. By accessing internet.org website, users will be offered with a list of websites they can be accessed free.
