Islamabad: The federal education and professional training ministry has finalized its planned syllabus for government sector educational institutes on Thursday, making a strong move for all associating units to introduce the teaching of Quranic education as a compulsory subject from class 1 to 12.
The final plan of proposals was submitted by Muhammad Balighur Rehman, the minister of state, before the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for reconsideration.
Formerly, there was a proposal to make the teaching of Quran compulsory up to class 10th. The projected course outline proposes to make recitation of Quran compulsory for students of class one to class five as a compulsory subject.
While talking to media sources, Rehman said;
“In 5 years, students will be able to recite the complete Holy Quran. It will also assist in lessening the burden on parents who hire a Quran teacher /Qari or send their children to maddaris for this reason”.
From class 6th to class 12th, students will be taught the “simplest Urdu translation of the Holy Book”, said Rehman.
“The eventual translation has been finalized by the ministry in consultation along with the religious scholars of various schools of thought,” said minister.
He furthermore said that;
The version of the translation was so easy that an Urdu teacher “can conveniently teach it to his or her students”.

“Between class 6th and 10th, the chapters of Quran and the related translation will be taught which tells about the incidents and happenings, whereas in grade 11th and 12th chapters would be taught which tell regarding the commands and directions of Allah Almighty” he added.
Balighur Rehman said the federal education ministry had sent the final proposal of recommendations to all the provinces.
While talking regarding necessary rule, the minister said:
“Education of Holy Quran as per the Recitation by Sight and with Translation, Learning by Heart and along with accurate pronunciation Bill, 2015” is presently under consideration of the Senate and the concerned standing committees of National Assembly".
The state minister further added that the teaching of the Quran will be necessary only for Muslim students whereas non-Muslim candidates will be freed from the same.
“Teaching of Quran will help in building the good character of students,” minister added.
Though, “The recommendations over the planned draft of the syllabus will be provided after its careful review,” chairperson of Council of Islamic Ideology Muhammad Khan Sherani said in a statement.
