German Scholar, Dr Hidayat Hussain from Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry Halle, Germany, delivered the lecture on “Innovative Chemical Diversity: A Potential Path to Drug Discovery”, on Monday. He delivered the lecture on invitation of The Women University, Swabi. The lecture was about medicines derived from plants and essence of its improvement for health of women.

The students of MSC and BS programmes of the Women University Swabi attended the lecture in great number. Strength of over 200 students and faculty members attended the lecture. , Dr Hidayat Hussain explained usefulness of medicinal plants, bioactive ingredients for cure of deadly diseases like cancer, and fatal and chronic diseases like hepatitis and diabetics.

The German scholar attended a question-answer session after the lecture. He further educated the attendants regarding PhD/post-doc scholarships in Germany. Vice-Chancellor of Women University, Swabi acclaimed the effort of the guest lecturer, she said, “The vision of this university is not only the employability and entrepreneurship of its female graduates but also making them confident, helpful and having a sense of integrity to contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the country.” The VC of University presented German scholar with memento of the event at conclusion of the event.

Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB) is an institute focused on carrying out research programmes on wild plants and cultivated plants.IPB researches on human-pathogenic fungi for treatment and diagnosis of various diseases. The research centre carries out various experiments for development of new therapeutics. IPB issues journals regarding its research details.

The participation of such innovative and renowned research institute in educational institutes opens new horizons for Pakistani scholars. Guest lectures are encouraged in international educational platforms because of its effectiveness in generating enthusiasm for research and discovery in students.
