Large number of students protested on Monday against the invalidating affiliation of Bahauddin Zakariya University’s (BZU) so-called Lahore Campus along with the main campus, located in Multan.

The strikers blocked the Kenal Road for all sorts of traffic for several hours. They wanted the authorities to secure their 2 academic years that they already spent at what they claimed the official campus of the well-known university.

Conversely, the vice chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University Dr Tahir Memon said that there was no affiliation of the campus in question at the first place let alone talks of retracting the same.

Students had been paying heavy tuition fees for the last 2 years for the peace of mind that they were studying at a prominent educational institute.

The fraud came to front last week when the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested the earlier vice-chancellor of BZU Khawaja Alqama for the suspected scam of millions of rupees.

The striking aspirants were of the opinion that they did not have anything to do along with the corruption scandal as well as the pursued accountability of their 2 academic years and money from the government.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has taken the notice of this issue and instructed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the investigation about it on priority basis. He also ordered the commission to submit the inquiry report as early as possible.
