MDCAT 2026 Controversy Deepens: Students Move Sindh High Court Over Withheld Question Papers and Answer Keys

Transparency concerns surrounding medical entrance examinations have once again taken center stage as pre-medical candidates push back against institutional secrecy. In a bold legal move, ten MDCAT 2026 students have officially approached the Sindh High Court (SHC), demanding that the authorities immediately make the exam question papers and official answer keys public. The petitioners are also urging the court to halt the final merit list and medical college admissions until the core transparency issues are resolved.

The legal challenge has added significant pressure to the exam-conducting bodies, intensifying discussions regarding accountability and fairness in Pakistan's centralized testing systems.

The Core Grievance: Withheld Question Papers and Verification Hurdles

The Medical and Dental Colleges Admission Test (MDCAT) was conducted statewide on September 20, drawing tens of thousands of hopeful aspirants. While candidates were provided with carbon copies of their answer sheets post-exam, exam supervisors strictly prohibited them from taking the original MDCAT question paper home.

When several candidates requested physical copies of the paper from the invigilation staff, their requests were flatly refused. According to the petition filed by Advocate Muhammad Nawaz Dahri, this policy creates an insurmountable barrier for students. Without access to the original questions, candidates find it practically impossible to cross-check their marked responses against the official answer keys. Furthermore, it strips students of their fundamental right to identify discrepancies, spot mistakes, and challenge incorrect answers through formal grievance channels.

Parties Named in the High Court Petition

The petition places legal accountability squarely on the shoulders of the key stakeholders responsible for administering the medical entrance test. Six major parties have been officially named in the case, including:

  • Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC)

  • Sukkur IBA University (SIBA / STS)

  • Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU)

  • Other affiliated medical education and testing authorities in the province.

The petitioners have requested the high court to issue a binding directive compelling these authorities to upload and publish the original MDCAT question papers and corresponding answer keys within three days.

High Stakes: Why Every Single Mark Matters

Advocate Muhammad Nawaz Dahri emphasized to the court that the stakes in the medical entrance exam are exceptionally high. In the intensely competitive landscape of medical admissions, a fractional difference or a variance of just a few marks can drastically alter a student's merit position.

A minor evaluation error or an unaddressed mistake in the answer key can completely shatter an aspirant's lifelong dream of securing admission to a reputable public sector medical or dental college. By withholding the core testing documents, candidates argue that the system fosters opacity rather than meritocracy.

Demand for a Stay on Medical College Admissions

To protect the rights of thousands of test-takers, the petitioners have formally asked the Sindh High Court to grant a stay order. They want the judiciary to halt the progression of the provisional merit lists and subsequent admission cycles.

The students maintain that the entire admission process should remain frozen until the governing bodies transparently release both the question paper and error-free answer keys. They believe that establishing this precedent is vital to restoring student trust and ensuring long-term transparency in future MDCAT examinations.
