Special Olympics at LUMS

Lahore, LUMS Community Services Society (LCSS), in collaboration with the International Special Olympics is organizing Special Olympics in Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on 19th February 2010.

AIMS:

• To highlight the importance of events like Special Olympics for the disabled to provide them with a platform to showcase their skills.
• To encourage the youth participation in fruitful activities like sports and in arranging events for the disabled of the society.
• To bring into focus the problems faced by the disabled and the handicapped in their day-to-day activities, and that these problems are more a result of the ignorance of the society than their own disability.

Details:

About 200 Special Athletes will participate, accompanied by their mentors to help them participate in the various events. The event will take place between 1:30- 4:30 PM. Student volunteers will participate in arranging the event. The event will be followed by a prize distribution ceremony in which eminent personalities from all walks of life will distribute the prizes among the winners, as well as highlight the importance of sports in an individual’s life irrespective of his ability or his disability.
