Sindh Health Minister Demands To Hold MDCAT at Provincial Level

The Sindh health minister, Dr. Pechuho has demanded to hold the MDCAT at the provincial level. According to the minister, there were many irregularities in the announced MDCAT 2020 result. Earlier before the conduction of the test the Sindh High Court had directed the Pakistan medical commission to form the national syllabus for the MDCAT by considering the curriculum of all provincial boards. But despite the order of the court, the PMC had not acted upon the court’s decision. Various other ministers including the education and information minister of Sindh have also raised objections against the PMC as they have put the career of many students at disadvantage. So now the health minister said that besides the national MDCAT there should be another entrance test conducted for the candidates at the provincial level. 

Rights of Provincial Government 

Besides the Sindh, the other provinces have also expressed their concerns that needed to be addressed properly. According to the Sindh officials, the provincial government is determined to form Sindh medical and dental council that will have the authoritative power to conduct the medical entrance exam at the provincial level. The health minister has stated that according to the 18th amendment the provinces can commence the MDCAT. So the federal government should not violate the provincial rights and allowed the governments to hold the entrance exams separately to determine the eligibility criteria of students to take admission in MBBS and BDS. Earlier the government of Sindh had conducted many medical and dental college admission tests with fairness and transparency. 

Protest Against MDCAT Result

The candidates in the various cities are protesting and demanding to re-conduct the MDCAT test. The students have said that the PMC had previously ensured that the announced syllabus will be followed in the entrance test but almost 14 questions were asked out of the syllabus. The PMC had stated after the result declaration that the students can submit the application form for the rechecking free of cost. But the candidates have raised concerns over the MDCAT 2020 result.
