Shair Afghan wins title of Mr. GCU

Shair Afghan, an aspirant of BSc (Honors) Economics, yesterday won the prestigious title of “Mr. GCU 2015-2016” at the Annual Inter-department Bodybuilding Championship arranged by the Government College University Lahore Sports Department. Shair flexed his heaving muscles to win the title in the finals of competition decided by Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation General Secretary Sheikh Farooq Iqbal, former Mr. Pakistan Mr Imran Qureshi and by Mian Naseer Ahmed. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hassan Amir Shah dignified the event by his presence as the Chief Guest, whereas the Director of Sports Khadim Ali Khan was also present on the occasion. Shair Afghan, the first clinched the top position in the category of heavyweights along with more than 65 kg of weight. After that, he took part in the finals and won the title of Mr GCU Lahore. An aspirant of Physics Department, Ikhlaq, succeeded in beating the tough competitors in the 60Kg class.

The performance of Talha Fahad, greeting from Economics Department was significant since he pushed his young as well as active competitor, Khawaja Muhammad Hassan into second place in the thoroughly contested competition in over 75 kg category. Saif-ur-Rehman, an aspirant of Psychology Department of GCU Engineering Department clinched the top position in the more than 80 kg category.

While addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Shah appreciated the hard work of the contributors. He vowed maximum support, moral as well as the financial, to the sportsmen through the management of the university.

Director of Sports Khadim Ali Khan expected that Shair Afghan will soon win the title of Mr Universities Pakistan in the competitions arranged by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. After that, the Vice Chancellor of Government College University together with the GCU Director Sports presented the trophies to the winners of every category.
