The Federal Minister of Education, Shafqat Mahmood has issued a clarification on the closure of schools and the other educational institutes across the country. Due to the rapid increase in the coronavirus cases, rumors have been circulating that the schools will be closed again. However, he made the announcement through his Twitter account that educational institutes are not being closed. The government is continuously monitoring the situation of COVID-19 on daily basis. The health of the teachers, students, and staff members is the top priority but at the moment no decision regarding the closure of the schools has been made. 

Proclamation of Murad Raas

The Punjab Education Minister, Murad Raas has also announced that the schools across the province Punjab will remain open. The monitoring committee is keeping a closed eye on the COVID-19 cases in the schools and random testing is also being done. As per the results of the random testing, there is a slight increase in the number of coronavirus cases. Currently, the situation is not alarming so the authorities are not considering the option to close the schools. Murad Raas directed all the students to strictly follow the SOPs in the time of the pandemic in order to protect themselves from the deadly virus. It is mandatory for all the students to wear the mask while attending the schools and maintain the social distance.

Upsurge in Coronavirus Cases

The nationwide lockdown was imposed in March and all the educational institutes remain closed for at least six months. The country saw a sharp decline in the cases of COVID-19 in August. By analyzing the situation the schools were reopened on 15th September 2020. But now, the infections are on the rise again and it is expected that schools might close again as the second wave of coronavirus has hit the country.
