Sargodha University Former Vice Chancellor Arrested By NAB

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had organized an investigation team to monitor the illegal activities surfaced in various sub-campuses of Sargodha University. This arrest took place on finding of some important evidence against the officials of Sargodha University. The arrested officials include former vice chancellor Dr Muhammad Akram Chaudhary, former registrar Brigadier (r) Rao Jamil Asghar, Lahore sub-campus CEO Mian Javed, administration director Muhammad Akram, Mandi Bahauddin sub-campus CEO Waris Nadeem Warriach and his partner Naeem Mukhtar Bajwa. On Monday, The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), arrested them in Sargodha University Lahore Office.  The Chief Justice of Punjab Mr Saqib Nisar had given NAB one week notice to finish the investigation. Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad, who is the current vice chancellor of Sargodha University, is the key authenticator of this investigation. The NAB was said to cooperate with him and get further details he can provide regarding this matter.  Besides the former VC, former registrar and CEO’s of the two sub-campuses involved in the corruption were summoned to Court for recording their statements.  According to the judicial report presented to the court by HEC, Sargodha University had opened five sub- campuses in breach of law provided by rules and regulations of Public-Private Partnership Policy. Sargodha University’s two campuses in Mandi Bahauddin and Lahore are both subject of this investigation.  Former VC, Dr. Akram , under act U/S 13(3) vested in him , established these campuses without essential consent from authorities related to the matter. There were complains of deformities in functioning of university’s finance and administration department. In February 2018, NAB held a meeting and decided to start investigation.

The present VC of Sargodha University who has played a vital role in exposing the corruption made by former officials, had informed the court that the fee structure and other management policies being applied in the sub-campuses was un-lawful. It is to be noted here that Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Dr. Muhammad Akram Chaudhary was regarded as best vice-chancellor of the university once. NAB will be asking for remand of the arrested (UOS) officials today in court hearing.
