Lahore, Punjab University is going to conduct laptop distribution ceremony today. A meeting was held on Sunday at the Al Raazi Hall of the Punjab University to review arrangements regarding another laptop distribution ceremony among 12000 PU students to be held today.

The meeting was presided over by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran while various committees were constituted in this regard. Some 12,000 PU students (morning and evening classes) will get laptops on merit under the Punjab government talent scheme.

A ceremony was held at the Department of English (Language & Literature) to commemorate birth anniversary of the poet of the East, Allama Muhammad Iqbal at the Prof Sirajuddin Auditorium.

As many as 12,000 students from the University of the Punjab will receive laptops during the second phase of the laptop distribution as part of the Shahbaz Sharif Youth Initiative in Lahore today.

The event scheduled to take place at the Hockey Stadium at around 3pm, will be the second event of the second phase. The first took place in Faisalabad on November 8, where MNA Hamza Shahbaz distributed laptops among students. In this phase, 100,000 laptops will be distributed among students enrolled in evening programs of study.

More than 100,000 laptops were distributed the previous year. The government has also launched an internship program for 50,000 young graduates. The interns will get a monthly stipend of Rs10,000.

The University of the Punjab established in 1882 which is the largest and the oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It was the first to be established in the sub-continent in Muslim majority area. The fact that two Nobel laureates are from this University speaks volumes for its academic and research excellence.
