The Prime Minister, Imran Khan gave the approval to University of the Punjab for establishment of Punjab University Medical College and its allied hospital to open new campuses to serve government institutes. Punjab specialized healthcare and medical education department prepared the establishment and management plan and present it to the Prime Minister and also requested funds for this purpose.
Establishment Plan for PU Medical College and Hospital
The Punjab Cabinet committee on finance also gave permission to the health department for further proceedings to set up the Punjab Medical College and its associated hospital. As per the presented plan, this associated hospital will lead the road from Canal to Karim Block while the medical college will be established at Punjab University Actuarial and statistical Sciences building. Moreover, the varsity also agreed to give almost 300-acre land for the allied hospital.
PU Requested To Award Degrees to Medical Graduates Itself
The Punjab health care department agreed to set up a hospital comprising of 800-beds on 60 acres of land at first. In this regard, PU has also insisted to award degrees to medical graduates by itself.Punjab specialized medical education department accepted this demand of university and asked the varsity to follow the rules and instructions set by the government. Furthermore, Punjab University will fund the medical college and also endure the running expenses including the salaries of staff and faculty members.
PU to Follow Admission Policy and Fee Structure Conducted By UHS
The specialized medical department also made it mandatory for the newly set up college and hospital to grant admission through specialized system hold by UHS and also to follow the similar fee structure. Further, it will be supervised by board of governors and dean. It has also been stated that a new act which will be the combination of both Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Act and Punjab University Act.
