The first ever “Punjab Non-Formal Education Council” (PNFEC) by the government of Punjab was formally unveiled on International Literacy Day yesterday.

This launching took place at an event that was arranged by the Literacy & Non Formal Basic Education (L&NFBE) Department Punjab along with the support of donor agencies at a local hotel. Moreover, the spokesperson of UNESCO, UNICEF as well as of the other INGOs and the national NGOs, Secretary L&NFBE Department Punjab Dr Naveed Ahmed Chaudhry, Additional Secretary M. Akram Jan and the other officials of the department were present at that occasion. Previously the speakers emphasized on the requirement of promoting literacy keeping in view the theme of International Literacy Day of this year i-e “Literacy and Sustainable Societies”.

 At the same time various NGOs also arranged the events in the provincial megalopolis to celebrate the international literacy day by influencing the government to make efforts to improve the literacy of the country.
