Lahore: According to the initial reports, Punjab Higher Education Minister, Syed Raza Ali Gillani on Tuesday announced that the government educational institutes will give 5 additional marks to each of the hijab-wearing female students in a bid to promote the custom.

The Punjab government introduced this policy on Tuesday promote hijab-culture across the province.

Furthermore, the Punjab Higher Education Minister during his address said that all teachers in public sector educational institutes are now required to recite a Hadith before they start their lecture.

On the other hand, The Government of Punjab on its official twitter account has denied the reports regarding the announcement of Punjab Education Minister that women wearing hijab in institutes will be given 5 extra marks.

The tweet given by the Government of Punjab on its official account reads:


“This is absolutely wrong news. No such policy has been announced by the Punjab Government.”


An earlier handout issued by Directorate General of Public Relations, Punjab said that Hijab will be made mandatory in the educational institutes of Punjab and also announced that an advantage of 5 percent will be given to such students in case their attendance remains below 65 percent.

The recommendation was allegedly made at a meeting in Lahore led by the Punjab Higher Education Minister Raza Ali Gilani.

Meanwhile, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari criticized the alleged move, saying that there was no relation between wearing a headscarf and getting good grades.
