Lahore: The Special Monitoring Unit (SMU) of Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is launching the Women Safety smartphone app on January 4th, 2017 (Wednesday), in association along with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and the Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW).
The smartphone app carries a special button for the safety of women that provides access to the PCSW helpline (1043), SMU’s Women-on-Wheels campaign, as well as the Police, permitting users to mark unsafe places.

The head of Law and Order SMU Salman Sufi said that the Punjab Government is dedicated to launch the Safety app for women to make sure that women have an effective platform to report the incidents of harassment.
The chairperson of PCSW Fauzia Viqar said that the app involves a button connecting the app along with the Punjab Women’s Helpline that provides information on available laws and services for women and -0-addresses complaints of inaction or discrimination by other government institutes.
The Chief Operating Officer of PSCA Akbar Nasir Khan said that the application will make it convenient for women to report harassment any time and it would be available offline.

The application will permit the women to inform the Police Integrated Command Control and Communication (PPIC3) officials about any sort of harassment they are subjected to along with their exact geographic site.
The law enforcement agencies will dispatch a team of first responders to directly tackle the situation upon receiving the notification.
The app has been designed to permit women to report any experiences that make the public space unsafe.
