Punjab government fails to distribute solar panels among students

Rawalpindi: The government of Punjab has failed to distribute the solar panels announced for the top position holders of higher secondary schools in Rawalpindi Division even after passing 2 years.

These solar panels were announced for the position holders in annual exams under the chief minister's Ujala Scheme for 2015 and 2016.

As per the sources, almost 500 solar panels have been lying in a government school for the last 2 years. "Their condition is weakening and some have even become non-operational. The total worth of solar panels is approximately Rs 3.5 million. The solar panels could bear to the load of one fan and the three energy savers. The scheme was launched when Punjab was facing long power outages," said sources.

The project was started almost 3 years back by the CM of Punjab Mian Muhammad shahbaz Sharif so that the aspirants were not affected by load-shedding.

According to the officials, the Energy Department Punjab had prepared a plan for the distribution of solar panels. "More than 300 out of the 500 solar panels would be distributed among the position holders of Wafaqul Maddaris located in Rawalpindi. A list of the position holders has also been prepared."
