Punjab Government Upgrades 1,227 Schools Without Spending Money

The Punjab government has announced the upgradation of 1,227 elementary schools into high schools across the province without spending any additional funds. The decision is being described as a major step towards improving the education system and providing better learning opportunities to students.

The announcement was made during a meeting regarding reforms in the school education sector, where officials highlighted that existing resources would be utilized to upgrade schools instead of allocating a separate budget. The initiative covers schools in different districts of Punjab and aims to reduce the dropout rate among students at the middle-school level.

According to officials, the upgraded schools include 606 girls’ schools and 621 boys’ schools. The move is expected to provide secondary-level education facilities closer to students’ homes, especially in areas where students previously had to travel long distances after completing elementary education.

More Than 100,000 Students Expected to Benefit

The Punjab government stated that more than 100,000 students will benefit from the school upgradation project. By converting elementary schools into high schools, students will have the opportunity to continue their education without leaving their local areas.

Education officials said that the project will also help control the issue of student dropouts by ensuring the availability of higher classes within existing school buildings. The initiative focuses on making better use of available infrastructure and human resources.

Existing Teachers and Classrooms to Be Utilized

Under the plan, thousands of existing teachers and classrooms will continue to serve in the upgraded schools. Officials explained that surplus teachers from elementary schools will remain available for secondary classes, while additional classrooms already present in schools will be used for higher-level education.

The government claimed that utilizing existing resources helped save billions of rupees while expanding educational facilities across Punjab. The strategy focuses on improving the quality and accessibility of education without creating an additional financial burden.
