Punjab Educational Boards Increase Fees for 2026 Session, Students Express Concern

The Punjab educational boards have officially announced an increase in registration, migration, and examination fees for students appearing in the 2026 academic session. The revised fee structure, approved by the Punjab Board Committee of Chairmen (PBCC), applies to all nine Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) across the province.

According to the updated notification, the decision was taken in response to rising administrative and operational expenses faced by the education boards. Officials stated that the revised fee schedule is aimed at ensuring the smooth conduct of examinations and improving examination-related services.

Revised Fee Structure

Under the new schedule, matric registration fees for the 2026–2028 academic cycle have been increased, while migration, certificate issuance, and other administrative charges have also been revised. Students seeking late registration or migration will now be required to pay additional penalties as outlined in the updated fee notification.

The boards have also introduced or revised certain service charges linked to examination management, documentation, and administrative processing. Education authorities maintain that these adjustments are necessary to meet increasing operational costs and maintain examination standards.

Parents and Students Voice Concerns

The fee increase has sparked concern among students and parents, particularly those from low- and middle-income families. Many believe that the higher educational costs will place additional financial pressure on households already dealing with inflation and increasing living expenses.

Education experts have suggested that the government should consider expanding scholarship programs or providing financial assistance to deserving students to ensure that no learner is deprived of education due to rising costs.

Boards Assure Improved Services

Officials from the Punjab educational boards have assured students that the revised fee structure will help improve examination arrangements, administrative efficiency, and digital services. They emphasized that the additional revenue will be used to strengthen board operations, modernize examination systems, and enhance student services.

Students are advised to carefully review the latest fee schedule issued by their respective BISE before submitting registration or examination forms to avoid late charges or application delays.
