The Punjab University gave the university’s senior professors laptop computers on Tuesday.
PU vice chancellor Arshad Mehmood gave the laptops to the professors in ceremony at the new campus. He said the senior professors were the university’s assets and were improving the varsity’s education standard. He said the university would provide them every facility for education and research, so that they could materialise the university’s revolutionary plans actively. He said PU was progressing swiftly because it was using all its energies on raising the educational standard. Mehmood said that after the start of the videoconferencing system between the Lahore and Gujranwala campuses, distance learning and online teaching programmes would soon be launched. He said initially, B Com, BBA, Banking and Finance, and IT would be started in the beginning and more disciplines would be included in the programme later.
He said overseas students would be able to download the courses from the PU website and would be able to appear in exams conducted by a panel of examiners available online.
Mehmood said this programme would be the first of its kind in Pakistan. He expressed the desire to introduce this system in the varsity’s teaching departments. The VC instructed all deans, directors and principals to present suggestions regarding this system. He asked teachers to focus on research. The professor who received the laptops are: Shaista Sonu Sirajuddin, Muhammad Amin Athar, Rass Masood Khan, Syed Shahid Ali, Shahida Hassnain, Rukhsana Bajwa, Mujahid Kamran, Chaudhry Jamil Anwar, Nasir Ahmad, Khawaja Harris Rashid, Muhammad Arif Butt, Javed Ahmad, Muhammad Jamshaid, Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Iqbal, Maher Muhammad Saeed Akhtar, Najma Najam, Yasmin Nilofar Farooqi, Nosheen K Rehman, Shahid Saeed Siddiqui, Shahid Kamal, Mazhar Moin, Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Ismatullah Zahid, Muhammad Saleem Malik and Dil Muhammad Malik, Liaqat Ali, Muhammad Naeem Khan, Taqi Zahid Butt, Nazir Ahmad Chaudhry, Dr Farasat Ali Syed, Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif and Malik Muhammad Zaheer.
