RAWALPINDI, Representatives of private school association have rejected the two weekly holidays owing to the power shortage and sought end to load shedding during school timings.
The chairman of National Education Council (NEC), an elected body of private educational institutions, while addressing the mediapersons at Rawalpindi Press Club on Monday said with too many holidays, two-day weekend would cost the students heavily.
The NEC Chairman Professor Taj Mohammad Karim also opposed imposition of proposed value-added tax (VAT).
“There are abundant holidays in the educational calendar and if we accept the two weekly offs then only 168 days would be left in one year for the educational institutions, which are insufficient to complete the curriculum”, the president added.
On imposition of VAT in education sector Professor Taj said it would definitely increase the cost of education and the burden would be on the parents who were already overburdened.
