Peshawar: On Tuesday, a man was handed down twelve (12) years in prison in Peshawar for making a fake Facebook profile of a woman and afterwards blackmailing her.

Furthermore, the court imposed a fine of Rs 0.3 million on Muhammad Munir.

The duration of the punishment given by the additional session judge Usman Ali is first-time in the history of Pakistan of cybercrime cases.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the culprit Munir in two years back in March 2015 under the Electronics Transaction Ordinance 2002 for illegally accessing the electronic data of some other person.

The Deputy Director of FIA Peshawar Ayaz Khan, who led the investigation, told the media sources that the woman had complained that Munir made a fake Facebook profile utilizing her name and afterwards uploaded snaps to blackmail her.

He added “We arrested him and conducted an investigation under cybercrime laws.”

Khan furthermore said that Munir had requested to the Peshawar High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan to grant him bail, though, it was rejected.
