A graduate of BS Electrical Engineering (2013) of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Lahore University of Management and Sciences(LUMS) and currently a PhD candidate of Electrical engineering at King Abdullah University of Sciences and Technology, Qurat-Ul-Ain Baloch has won the prestigious Marconi Society’s Paul Baron Young Scholar Award for the year 2018. She has been awarded with this prestigious award prior to her revolutionary and scrupulous contribution in the development of full dimension (FD) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communication, which is a method for multiplying the capacity of power line communication for enhancement in 5G cellular systems. The award ceremony will be held on October 2, 2018, in Bologna, Italy.

Her Field Of Work and Contribution

FD-MIMO are methods which have attracted significant importance in wireless technology .Its best performance is achieved by installation of active antennas system with a planar array structure to provide adaptive electronic beam control in the 3D space. According to her supervisor Professor Mohamed-Slim Alouini, her research has proved to implementable and establishes a suited link between the vision of FD-MIMO and the theoretical study of 3D beam forming. Her research was based on 3D modeling and its theoretical aspects as compared to previous researched which were based on standardization of FD-MIMO technology in 3GPP. Her work has made a breakthrough in enhancement of 5G cellular system. Her research will play a huge role in multiplying the average rate of production of Long Term Evolution System (LTE)

About Marconi Society’s Paul Baron Young Scholar Award

Marconi Society’s Paul Baron Young Scholar Award was established in 1974 by the daughter of Guglielmo Marconi, the Nobel Laureate who invented radio. Young scientists, scholar and engineers who have done outstanding and innovative work in their respective fields are awarded for their remarkable work by Marconi Society’s Paul Baron Young Scholar Award. The candidates of this award are nominated by academic advisors of Macroni society. Winners are chosen by an international panel of engineers from world’s leading universities and companies. The winners are rewarded amount of $5000 as a prize at annual award event. Also the winners get to be part of Macroni Young Scholars group, who are regarded as the best researchers in the fields of engineering and networking. This privilege of being part of this elite group of researchers gain them international recognition and acclamation.

On Winning This Prestigious Award

“I am a Pakistani woman pursuing a PhD in Saudi Arabia, which speaks about the country’s new focus on research and innovation,” Nadeem says. “KAUST has definitely taken the lead in promoting science and technology in the country, and I think that this award will definitely encourage more women in the region to enter the field of science and accomplish even greater things. I’m really, really honored to be considered worthy of being among Marconi Society Young Scholars and to have my work recognized by luminaries in the fields of wireless communications and networking.”

“The remarkable thing about our Young Scholar program is that it has, from the start, attracted nominations of the best and brightest young researchers from across the globe,” says Vinton Cerf, chair of The Marconi Society. “We are proud to welcome into our group extraordinary individuals like Qurrat, who are not only advancing our industry, but inspiring and mentoring others to benefit humanity.”
