ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has established a National Agriculture Education Accreditation to ensure quality and international compatibility in agricultural degree programmes in educational institutions of higher learning.
The establishment of the council has been notified by the HEC in exercising its power under Article 10, Sub-section (e) of the President Ordinance No.2 (1) 2002-Public dated 11.09-2002 and as approved by the Commission in its 9th meeting held on November 26 last year.
Pakistan has four Agricultural universities and a number of agricultural colleges.
Apart from this, a number of general universities are endeavoring to offer degrees in subjects closely related to the discipline of agriculture.
It is imperative to ensure quality and purposefulness of these educational programmes.
According to HEC here on Tuesday, there is a dire need of assessment of educational institutions with respect to curricula, student, learning, educational delivery systems, strength of faculty and students, laboratories, research farm and other infrastructure that promote the healthy activities among students and teachers.
Accreditation process is considered an effective instrument to achieve these
goals and to help socio-economic development of the country.
