Islamabad, June 3, 2026: The Government of Pakistan has announced revised closing hours for commercial establishments across the country. According to a new notification issued by the Cabinet Division on June 3, 2026, businesses will be allowed to remain open for longer hours due to extended daylight and rising summer temperatures.
The decision has been approved by Prime Minister and is effective immediately. Provincial and regional governments have been directed to implement the revised timings accordingly.
Under the latest notification, different categories of businesses will follow the following closing schedules throughout the week, including Saturdays and Sundays:
| Business Category | New Closing Time |
|---|---|
| Shops, markets, shopping malls, and bazaars | 9:00 PM |
| Departmental stores, grocery stores, general stores, and kiryana shops | 9:00 PM |
| Marriage halls, marquees, and commercial venues hosting festive events | 10:00 PM |
| Restaurants, cafes, eateries, and food outlets | 11:00 PM |
| Takeaway and home delivery services | Exempt from closing time restrictions |
The notification also states that several essential services will remain exempt from the prescribed closing timings. These include:
These establishments may continue operating under the exemptions granted through fuel conservation and additional austerity measures.
The federal government explained that the adjustment has been made considering the longer daylight hours during the summer season and the increasing temperatures across Pakistan. The revised schedule is intended to facilitate businesses and consumers while maintaining energy conservation measures.
The Cabinet Division has advised all provincial and regional administrations to ensure the implementation of these updated business hours. Local authorities may issue further instructions to businesses regarding compliance and monitoring.
The revised timings are expected to provide greater flexibility for traders, retailers, and consumers, especially during the summer months when shopping activities often increase in the evening. Restaurant owners and event organizers are also likely to benefit from the extended operational hours.
Business communities across major cities including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta are expected to adjust their schedules according to the new government directives.
The Government of Pakistan's latest notification brings relief to businesses by extending operating hours during the summer season. While most commercial establishments will now be allowed to remain open until 9:00 PM, restaurants can operate until 11:00 PM, and essential services will continue to enjoy exemptions from closing restrictions.
