Lahore, The Old Ravians declared on Friday that they would form a human chain around Government College University Lahore if the government tried to flatten a single inch of their alma mater for a bus terminal.
In a joint press statement issued on Friday by the Old Ravians Union, former Chief Secretary Punjab Pervaiz Masood, Federal Secretary Housing Kamran Lashari, former IG Punjab Sadaat Ullah Khan, Member Public Service Commission Qazi Afqa, Col (r) Rafi Naseem, former minister Zia Haider Rizvi, famous singer Shafqat Amanat Ali, Waris Baig, former Government College History Department chairman Prof. Dr. Farhat Mehmood, cultural icon Mian Yousuf Salahuddin, former test cricketer Shafqat Rana, ORU Vice President Talat Altaf, Honorary Secretary Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt and eminent actor Moamar Rana said that Old Ravians would not allow anybody to spoil the 148-year old educational institution for a bus terminal.
They further said that it could be suitably shifted to some other places including Nasir Bagh, Zilla Kachari and Saleem Model High School. The Old Ravians Union requested Punjab Chief Minister MIan Muhammad Shahbaz to interfere in the matter.
They said that they highly appreciate Shahbaz Sharif’s steps for providing modern and convenient transport service to the citizens of Lahore, but it should not be done by ruining a historical seat of higher learning, so the orders should be issued for shifting the bus terminals to some other suitable sites.
It was also identified in the press statement that thousands of Old Ravians have written letters to the Punjab government, Old Ravians Union Honorary Secretary Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt and GCU administration against spoiling GCU Girl’s Hostel and Logia Gardens.
