The National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) will become a technical university very soon.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Balighur Rehman during 14th board meeting of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission on Wednesday.

The minister also greeted the new board members and said that he expected for the better results from the NAVTTC under the supervision of its executive director, Zulfiqar Cheema.

He moreover added that “we are way behind in the TVET education as compared to the other countries, that’s why we required working so hard on this zone. We must introduce the demand-driven courses without ignoring the stock side.”

The minister said that he was an exceptional advocate of the public-private partnership as it concentrated the cost of business though enhancing the efficiency and that the private zone should also be affianced for the purpose.

He said the government had given the first technical and vocational education and training policy of the country as well as introduced the competency-based training and gratitude prior learning.

He said that “We have also introduced the National Vocational Qualification Framework”. While talking regarding the technical industrial apprenticeship programme, the minister said that some modifications had been anticipated to the Internship Act 1962.

NAVTTC Executive Director Zulfiqar Cheema informed the minister regarding the ongoing as well as the future projects and about the working of organization.

He further told him regarding the establishment of the job placement center at the NAVTTC and said the quantity and quality of the trainings had been enhanced over a period of time. “Presently the NAVTTC is conducting training programmes with better institutes and certifying their monitoring in a good way. Furthermore, skill competition, job fairs, skill analysis as well as the apprenticeship programme have been started.”

Under the program, 600 apprentices would be taught along with the high level industrial on-job training. BoM also ratified the creation of TVET Regulatory Framework as well as the Federal Board of TVET Regulations. 17 projects were ratified for north and south Punjab, 7 for Sindh, 15 for KPK or Fata, 12 for Balochistan, as well as 8 for Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and also for Balochistan.

This meeting was attended by the NAVTTC chairman, board members, mutual secretary of the federal education as well as the professional training, joint secretary of industries and production, DFA (finance), and representatives of all the provincial TEVTAs and different organizations.
