The Times Higher Education has just released it Emerging Economies University Rankings 2019 list. Only nine Pakistani Universities have been able to grab a place in these rankings. The rankings havebeen Formulized with methodology of Teaching (the learning environment) – 30%, Research (volume,income, reputation) – 30%, Citations (research influence) – 20% and International outlook (staff, students, research) – 10% and Industry income (knowledge transfer) – 10%. As usual China has ranked at first position with Tsinghua University, and the other first four positions also have been booked by China with Peking University at second position, Zhejiang University at third position and University of Science and Technology of China at Fourth Position. Russia came at 5th position with Lomonosov Moscow State University.
India too gained high position at the rankings with 49 Universities being included at it. It is rather disappointing that only 9 Universities of Pakistan have been able to ranking in the list whereas it neighbors as China and India gained highest positions. Last year, 10 Pakistani Universities were included in the same list and this year only 9.
The main reason of Pakistan gaining lesser position in international rankings is because of absence of research culture. Where other developing countries like, Colombia, India, Indonesia and Kenya have
