NED University Unveils 2026-27 Admissions: 140 New Seats, Fee Revision, and New Programs

The NED University of Engineering and Technology has officially announced its undergraduate admissions schedule for the 2026–27 academic year . The prestigious institution is expanding access by increasing its overall seat capacity while simultaneously implementing a revised fee structure for the upcoming session.

According to an official statement released by the university administration, the total number of available seats will rise from 3,016 to 3,156 , marking an increase of 140 seats across various categories. This expansion aims to accommodate a larger cohort of aspiring engineers and technologists.

Admissions Timeline and Entry Test Schedule

Prospective students have a window of two months to submit their applications. The NED University admission portal will open on March 30 and will remain active for applicants until May 29, 2026 .

In a bid to streamline the selection process, the university will conduct the entry test in two distinct phases. Registrar Dr. Ghazanfar Hussain confirmed that the first phase of the entry test is slated to take place from June 4 to June 7 . The second phase is expected to follow in the first week of July, providing flexibility for candidates across different examination boards.

Merit Calculation and Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for NED University remain rigorous to ensure academic excellence. Candidates must secure a minimum of 50 percent marks in the entry test to qualify for admission.

The final merit list will be calculated based on a weighted formula, giving the entry test a 60 percent weightage , while the first-year intermediate (Pre-Engineering or relevant) results will account for the remaining 40 percent .

Shifting Seats: Merit Increase and Category Adjustments

In a move aimed at rewarding high-achieving students, the university has reduced the number of self-finance seats. The administration has cut five self-finance seats , reducing the total from 164 to 159. These seats have been shifted to the merit category, potentially lowering the cut-off percentage for students seeking admission on a merit basis.

Dr. Ghazanfar Hussain noted that the seat increase spans multiple categories, including allocations for the Karachi Board, A-Level, Aga Khan Board, minority quotas, and various regional allocations , ensuring equitable representation.

Fee Structure: Proposed Increase for 2026-27

The university’s finance committee has proposed an increase of approximately 10 percent in semester fees to keep pace with operational costs and institutional development. While the previous semester fee stood at Rs. 51,930, the new semester fee is proposed to rise to Rs. 57,000 .

Students enrolling in the first semester should prepare for a higher initial financial outlay. The total payable at the start of the academic year, including admission and other charges, is estimated to be around Rs. 123,000 . Additionally, the one-time admission fee is proposed to increase from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 28,000 .

Self-finance categories have also seen revisions. The local self-finance fee has been increased from Rs. 855,000 to Rs. 890,000 , while the sponsored self-finance fee has risen from Rs. 1,065,000 to Rs. 1,100,000 .

New Academic Programs at Thar Campus

In a significant expansion of its academic footprint, NED University is introducing two new programs at its Thar campus . Starting in the 2026-27 session, the university will offer a BS in English and a BS in Management Sciences .

This move marks a strategic shift for the institution, traditionally known for engineering disciplines, as it broadens its humanities and management offerings to cater to the evolving educational needs of the Thar region and its surrounding areas.

With the admission schedule now public, prospective students are advised to prepare their academic documents and familiarize themselves with the entry test syllabus. The increase in merit seats and the introduction of new programs at the Thar campus reflect NED University’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities while maintaining high academic standards.

Applicants are encouraged to regularly visit the official NED University website for the final fee notification and detailed instructions regarding the online application process.
