ISLAMABAD: Minister of Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal, directed the education authorities to reform a National Action of Plan for excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics on Friday.

The meeting was also attended by Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad and several other education officials from provincial and federal bodies.

On this occasion, Iqbal said that brilliance in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at school, college and university levels is very much important to produce outstanding scientists, engineers and technicians. He further said that we need to use mix learning method so that it could inspire creativity in students.

 He further added that an up-to-date curriculum and teachers training in science subjects would be the part of the plan. There would be science and computer labs in every high school, science fairs and competitions would be part of the plan as well.

He said that Pakistan needs to have an education mix for the economic development. He also said that we need activity-based learning to discover creativeness and imagination among the students to develop critical thinking among them.  

Iqbal said that the public universities should establish a refresher course for the students so that they could contest with the students at private universities.

In the meeting he also highlighted the major initiatives government has taken in the education department. Those include the launch of Examination System Reforms, National Curriculum reforms, and Transformational Teacher Training.
