The Education Minister of Punjab, Murad Raas has announced that schools will remain open despite an increase in the coronavirus cases. He made this announcement through his Twitter account and clearly stated that currently there is no plan to close the schools. There is increase in the number of COVID-19 cases as the second wave of the pandemic has hit the country. The minister said that the Punjab government is monitoring the situation of the coronavirus in the schools across the province. Random testing was also conducted and according to the received reports, only a slightly increase in the numbers has been observed. Moreover, the situation of the pandemic is analyzed on the daily basis. 

Implementation of SOPs

Murad Raas also urged the students to follow the SOPs to protect them from the virus. Apart from this the minister also visited the schools to ensure the proper implementation of the precautionary measures. It was announced that the schools with a high number of coronavirus cases will be closed for a few days only. All the other schools will carry on their routine academic activities without any disruption. It is pertinent to mention here that due to lockdown and closure of schools, half of the academic year has been over. So to overcome the academic gap the officials have informed that up till now there is no decision taken regarding the closure of the institutes. However, the Sindh education minister hinted to close the schools due to the second wave of COVID-19

Current Situation of COVID-19

Since July, the COVID-19 tally crosses the 1000 mark and the cases have been increasing from the past few weeks. The federal minister of planning, Asad Umar had also declared the situation alarming and directed the people to strictly follow the SOPs and be careful about the upsurge in the coronavirus cases. To control the ongoing situation the lockdown has been imposed in many areas so that the spread of the virus can be prevented.
