KARACHI: The University of Karachi and the University of Rhode Island (USA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 9th 2011to establish cooperative relations between the two institutions.

The University of Karachi has signed this memorandum on behalf of its International Center for Chemical and Biological Science (H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research).

The basic aim of this MoU is to develop the academic and cultural interchange between the two institutions in education, research and other areas of mutual interest and benefits.

The areas of cooperation include pharmaceutical sciences, medicinal chemistry, molecular medicine, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, and standardization of herbal medicines relevant to both institutions, in which both the universities believe cooperation is feasible and desirable and which would contribute to fostering and developing a mutually beneficial relationship between KU and the University of Rhode Island, USA.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor, KU, said programs like the exchange of students on graduate and post-doctoral levels, joint-research activities or projects, staff development projects and special short-term academic program will prove to be beneficial for our students and faculty members. This MoU has been signed for a period of five years.
