Lahore: The Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gilani has said that they are taking important steps to bring five government sector universities of the province, also including University of the Punjab (PU), in QS World University Rankings, in the first phase.

He gave this statement on Monday at a press conference after holding meetings along with the deans, directors, principals, hostel wardens, faculty as well as the aspirants at the Executive Club in Punjab University.

The chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Nizamuddin as well as the registrar of Punjab University was present there.

Mr Gilani ordered the chairperson of Punjab Higher Education Commission to make report on shifting undergraduate studies to the college level so that the varsities could only focus on research as well as higher education.

He further added that the government will soon hire vice-chancellors (VCs) in varsities to fill the empty posts.

He also said that they were trying to improve the academic standards of the nation and announced making a problem-solving laboratory of international standards in Punjab University.

The provincial minister said that the government was utilizing all the available resources to bring the higher educational institutes of Punjab to the international standard.

Moreover, he announced meeting deans, principals, directors, faculty and the aspirants every month to solve their matters.
