LAHORE, The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) secured the first two positions of the LCCI business plan competition on Friday while the third position went to Kinnaird College.

The event was chaired by Punjab Board of Investment and Trade Vice Chairman Pir Saad Ahsanuddin, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) Senior Vice President Ejaz A Mumtaz and Vice President Faisal Iqbal Sheikh while LCCI former president Mian Muzaffar Ali and former vice president Sheikh Muhammad Arshad were also present.

The competition aims at encouraging the young graduates so that they can start their own businesses in a new and innovative manner.

Mr Mumtaz said that it was the prime duty of the LCCI to promote business activities in the larger interests of the industry which is facing the lack of skilled and competent people.

Mr Sheikh urged the students to prepare themselves for coping with fast emerging global challenges. He said the entire world was impressed with the talent of Pakistani students but a large number of them were suffering for want of proper opportunities.

The universities and colleges of the provincial metropolis which took part in the competition were: University of Central Punjab, Kinnaird College, Government College University, COMSATS, LUMS, Imperial College of Business Studies, Forman Christian College, Lahore Grammar School and University of Management and Technology took part in the competition which continued for whole of the day. The competition was largely attended by students and businessmen belonging to various faculties and institutions.

Prizes were given to the students of LUMS and Kinnaird College while special prizes were given to University of Central Punjab and Lahore Grammar School.

BD media team: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has said the highly knowledgeable and expert faculty is considered to be the backbone in the promotion of higher education because its excellence and expertise drastically affects the quality of educated lot it produces.

The VC was briefing the visiting 10-member media delegation from Bangladesh about the academic and research activities and overall contribution of the varsity at the provincial and national level in his office committee room here on Friday.

He said the university was striving to increase the number of quality PhD faculty to ensure that only high quality graduates and researches were produced.

He also expressed his hope that in view of the longstanding religious, spiritual and cultural bonds of brotherhood with the Bangladeshi brethren, exchange of delegations of faculty and students between the universities of both countries could further strengthen mutual relations of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Members of the Bangladeshi media delegation asked questions about the university, its student body, research and ranking.

The delegation included staff reporters ABM Shamsud Doza, Shahnaz Parveen and Jamilul Ahsan, city editors Saifuddin Ahmed and Nurul Huda, reporter/newsroom editor Nasreen Begum Geeti, senior reporter Imran Alam, bureau chief Shamsuddin Harun, assistant editor Bakhtiar Rana and special correspondent Sultanul Mohakkakin Babu.

PU senior officials and teachers were also present on the occasion.

RESULTS: The PU on Friday declared the results of Bachelor of Education (BEd) supplementary examination for 2008 and annual examination for 2009.
