Lahore,  A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) restricted Punjab University (PU) Physics Department Head Dr Shaukat Ali from his office on the charges of having fake certificate of matriculation.

The bench issued this order on a court appeal (ICA) filed by Muneer Ahmad against dismissal of a writ petition for removal of Dr Shaukat Ali by a LHC single bench. The bench also directed PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran to submit report regarding the issue.

The petitioner’s counsel said that Dr Shaukat Ali committed fraud with the Punjab University by submitting a fake Matriculation certificate. His date of birth was 1954 whereas he submitted a matriculation certificate showing his date of birth as 1959. Two inquiries were started against the fraud by the university but it did not reach to any conclusion. However, a university committee acknowledged that the respondent had committed fraud, he argued.

He further said how it was shameful for a historical institution where a corrupt person was appointed as head of the physics department. The petitioner requested the court to direct the authorities concerned to initiate immediate inquiry. He further prayed that the respondent should be removed from his office.

However, the bench comprising Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan and Justice Ibad-ur-Rehman Lodhi restrained Dr Shaukat Ali from holding his office and adjourned further proceedings till November 11.
