Lahore: Several students of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) held a protest demonstration on Wednesday after failing examination. The students protested against the unfair and injustice examination system.
These students were of the view that question paper was high on difficulty index coupled with some tight marking in the third professional MBBS exam, which led to failing of 40 medical students and detention of 25 students in specific subjects.
As a result large numbers of students were not able to attend new sessions. Hence, they resorted to protesting against the management of college and demanded that they should be permitted to attend their classes.
They also demanded the college management to make over the examination system as well as to provide justice to the aspirants, who failed or detained in the specific subjects allegedly because of the faults in the examination system.
Furthermore, they demanded from KEMU management to improve the ratio of objective type questions as was being proficient in other medical universities. They threatened to hold protest demonstration as well as sit-in on The Mall today if university management did not remove their objections.
Though, college management rejected their demands and locked the main gates after numerous students walked out. A lot of media person were left trapped inside the college building.
The students’ protest got the spur when a 4th year student of MBBS tried to suicide by climbing a water tank for failing or detention in the exam a day before yesterday. Large number of male as well as female aspirants held a protest demonstration in Patiala Block after holding a rally from Mayo Hospital to King Edward Medical University, holding a banner and chanting mantras against injustice meted out to some students in the award of marks.
In the meantime, KEMU management has formulated a four-member committee, which is sanctioned to investigate the issue in meeting along with the experts of exams. The KEMU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asad Aslam Khan, who is also a member of this committee, said that the committee had finalized the belief of experts on the papers and the final decision will be announced today by the committee.
