BIEK Karachi Issues Urgent Scam Alert: Fraudulent Website Target Students with Fake Result Guarantees

Students and parents in Karachi face an alarming threat following an extensive online scam targeted at intermediate candidates. Fraudsters operating a fake website styled after the official Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) portal have lured students with promises of passing failed examination papers or altering academic records in exchange for money.

The scam highlights growing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the online educational space and underlines the urgent need for students, parents, and academic institutions to remain vigilant.

How the BIEK Online Result Scam Works

The fraudulent operation surfaced after a copycat website designed to mimic the layout and typography of the official BIEK portal started appearing prominent in search engine results. When students searched for intermediate examination results, roll number slips, or marksheet verification, search engine algorithms directed a portion of web traffic toward this malicious website.

Once users landed on the fake site, they were directed to a WhatsApp helpline number for all "result assistance and grade modification query" requests.

According to complaints and reports:

  1. WhatsApp Helplines: Operatives managing the WhatsApp helpline claimed to be authentic administrative staff and official representatives of BIEK.

  2. Monetary Demands: They demanded Rs 10,000 per subject to clear failing marks or bump up overall grades.

  3. Private Account Transfers: Students were instructed to send payments directly via private bank accounts and mobile wallet channels (such as EasyPaisa and JazzCash).

  4. False Guarantees: Fraudsters claimed that marks would be updated in the official database within 24 hours of payment receipt.

After collecting substantial sums of money from desperate students, the website operators shut down the site under the cover of "routine site maintenance" and disappeared with the funds.

BIEK Official Stance: Chairman Denies Any Internal Connection

Following widespread public concern and reports from impacted families, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi Chairman Faqir Muhammad Lakho released an official statement disavowing any connection between the board administration and the fraudulent portal.

Chairman Lakho stressed that BIEK maintains strict integrity in its evaluation, grading, and tabulation systems. He clarified that no officer, staff member, or third-party entity has authorization or capability to adjust marks outside official rechecking and scrutiny protocols.

Legal Action Taken by Board Authorities

To protect students and bring the culprits to justice, BIEK officials have formally escalated the issue to law enforcement authorities:

  • NCCIA Involvement: The board repeatedly filed reports with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to track down, block, and shut down spoof domain names.

  • Formal Written Complaints: BIEK dispatched formal letters to federal telecommunication and cybercrime bodies to initiate criminal investigations against the bank accounts and mobile numbers used to siphon funds.

The Gap: Why Students Fall Victim to Educational Cyber Scams

Educational impersonation scams are not isolated incidents; they prey on structural gaps in student information ecosystems:

1. High-Stakes Pressure & Anxiety

Intermediate (FA/FSc) board exam results play a decisive role in university admissions, professional college entry tests (such as MDCAT and ECAT), and career prospects. Under severe academic pressure, failing or low-scoring students often fall victim to emotional manipulation and "guaranteed pass" guarantees.

2. Search Engine Manipulation (SEO Spoofing)

Scammers use Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques, search ad placement, and domain name manipulation (typosquatting) to position fraudulent links at the top of query results for keywords like "BIEK result check online" or "Karachi board 11th 12th supply result". Unwary users clicking the first available link often fail to inspect the web address.

3. Misinformation around Rechecking and Scrutiny

Many students remain unaware of how official rechecking works. BIEK permits candidates to apply for paper rechecking or marks recounting within designated deadlines through prescribed bank challans—never through private electronic bank transfers to personal accounts.

How to Verify Official BIEK Channels and Stay Safe

To protect academic credentials and financial security, students and parents should observe the following guidelines when checking results or requesting board services:

1. Always Verify the Official Website Address

Always verify the URL address in your browser before entering personal credentials or roll numbers.

  • Official BIEK Web Portal: Ensure you are accessing the verified, primary portal (biek.edu.pk).

  • Check for SSL Certificates: Verify the domain address carefully. Scammers frequently use slight spelling variations or domains with unusual extensions (e.g., .org-specials, .info, .xyz, .biz).

2. Never Pay Money via Private Channels

BIEK and other Pakistani educational boards never collect fees via personal bank accounts, individual mobile wallets, or private WhatsApp numbers. All legitimate fees—for retakes, rechecking, transcript issuance, or migration certificates—are paid through authorized bank challans deposited at designated bank branches or official digital collection gateways.

3. Recognize That Result Modification is Impossible

Examination marks are recorded in secure, audited board databases. No individual on WhatsApp or social media can "hack" or edit official gazettes or database logs. Promises of grade modification in exchange for cash are entirely fraudulent.

4. Report Fraudulent Links Immediately

If you encounter a suspicious website or social media advertisement claiming to represent the Karachi Intermediate Board, report the account immediately to the NCCIA Cyber Crime Portal or notify BIEK administration via official contact numbers listed on their web portal.
