The government of Japan has granted MEXT Research Scholarships for Masters/Doctorate degrees for the academic year 2017 to 7 postgraduate aspirants of Pakistan.

This scholarship program is targeted at offering an opportunity to chase higher studies in their respective fields at the government sector universities of Japan.

The Embassy of Japan has arranged a pre-departure orientation for 7 Pakistani students on Friday night who have been awarded the MEXT Research Scholarships by Japanese Government.

The Pakistani alumni of the Japanese universities were also invited at the orientation who shared their knowledge as well as their experiences of studying and living in Japan as the young scholarship receivers.

The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Takashi Kurai also hosted a send-off reception at his home to say his good wishes to the scholarship receivers of academic year 2017.

The Ambassador congratulated the scholarship receivers and also expressed his hope that they will come back to Pakistan to use the knowledge and expertise that they will get in Japan for the future development of Pakistan and that they will always become bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Japan.

Ambassador Kurai further said that this year marks the 65th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations among Japan and Pakistan and this scholarship programme is an essential part of the great relationship that Japan shares along with Pakistan.

The MEXT Research Scholarships by Japan were introduced in 1954 whereas MEXT Undergraduate Scholarships were launched in 1958.

Since the first Pakistani scholarship receiver came to Japan in 1963, a large number of Pakistani aspirants have successfully returned to the country after getting their PhD/Master’s degrees in Japan.

Currently they are working in the academia, government and private sectors and have made noteworthy contributions to the development of Pakistan in different fields and promoting the friendly relationship between Japan and Pakistan.

The Government of Japan awards fully funded graduate and post-graduate scholarships to Pakistani students on annual basis besides many short-term scholarships and training courses round the year.
