A latest ranking of the universities based on the broadcasting of research in the academic conferences as well as its publication in the worldwide famous journals, was announced on Friday by Information Technology University.

According the published ranking list, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, topped in the broad category whereas Aga Khan University topped in the specialized group.

The Quality Research Rankings (QRR) of Pakistani educational institutes was set by the Sciento-metrics Lab on Information Technology University. Total 200 varsities and the research institutes in Pakistan were assessed for the quality research ranking.

In the general group of educational institutes, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology obtained 2nd position; the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, clinched third position; the National University of Sciences and Technology attained the fourth position; University of the Punjab comes at 5th; Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences appeared on the list with 6t rank; University of Karachi comes at 7th; University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, obtained 8th position; Government College University, Lahore secured the 9th position whereas University of Peshawar clinched 10th position.

On the other hand, in the specialized group of educational institutes, Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology secured 2nd position; Lahore University of Management Sciences clinched the third position; the National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering comes at fourth; the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences obtained 5th position; NED University of Engineering and Technology Pakistan secured the 6th position; University of Sindh, Jamshoro obtained 7th position; University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, secured 8th position; NWFP Agricultural University appeared on the list with 9th rank whereas University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi clinched the 10th position.

The Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU), Umar Saif, during the launch of the ranking list, in his statement said that the broadcasting of research work produced by the universities at academic conferences as well as its publication in the well-known journals was the main and major criteria for the rankings.

He said that these rankings showed that where different universities of Pakistan stood in terms of producing the international quality research.

Before this, Higher Education Commission has also unveiled the ranking list 2015 of Pakistani Universities.

The head of Sciento-metrics Lab in Information Technology University, Saeedul Hassan said that expected the Information Technology University-Quality Reach Ranking will encourage the institutes to invest in production of quality research work. He also added that details of factors deliberated in the ranking can be accessed through the official website of ITU.
