The unique smell of new as well as of old books drew the people in large numbers to the Expo Centre, where the 11th Karachi International Book Fair inaugurated on the Thursday morning.

People of all ages took a break from their daily working routines to visit the several stalls that are set up at the fair as well as purchase books of their choice.

Women, together with their children, also freed time in the afternoon after school hours and came there in large numbers.

The 5 days book fair, which will continue till 16th November 2015, seemed to cater for the people of different socio-economic backgrounds as well as of the ideological leanings. From Manto’s ‘Siyah Hashiye’ to Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi`s ‘Bahishti Zewar’, there is something for everyone.

For the 18-years-old Anum, it was quite inexpensive cost that made her come all the way from Baldia Town. While pointing towards an English novel she said: “The same book will cost me almost 500 Rs, however, here I have only paid 150 Rs.”

Manzoor, a bookseller for Dar-ul-Quran publishers, said that the response was outstanding at his stall, particularly by the women. While sharing his experience he said that he found women to be more addicted readers as compared to the men. The number of women at his stall obviously justified his statement.
