Higher Education Commission To Provide Great Relief To M.Phil./MS Scholars

Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has made a big announcement regarding the M.Phil/MS scholars. The officials have announced to provide great relief to the candidates enrolled in the M.Phil/MS/ Equivalent degree program. This decision has been taken by considering the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic as the educational institutes remain closed for at least six months. Due to this reason, the students could not complete their last two semesters. This impacted the educational activities of the students and they remain unable to complete their work as per the academic schedule. Now after the gradual opening of the institutes, the M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars are allowed to resume their research. As per the guidelines of HEC, the M.Phil/MS scholars of the academic year 2018-2020 can now take another year to complete their research work so that the degree can be issued to them.

Extension of Duration In M.Phil/MS Degree Program

According to the sources, all the public and the private universities will allow their M.Phil/MS scholars to submit their thesis up to next year by extending the duration of the degree program. Furthermore, it is also informed to the candidates that this decision will be applicable for the current year only for such students that have to finalize their final project work by autumn 2020. From the next academic year, no extension in the M.Phil/MS program will be granted as per the instructions of the HEC officials. 

Instructions To University Officials

Higher education Commission has also instructed all the concerned vice-chancellors of various universities to implement this decision. They also directed the universities to facilitate the students in this matter and ensure the completion of the degrees on time as no further extension in the duration will be provided afterward to the enrolled candidates.
